Civil Union in the UK

Two men became the first people in the UK today to get a civil union. Although it's a good thing, it's quite sad in a way; one of them seems ready to die any day now, which is why they got to skip the 15 day period after application. Previously, a couple in Northern Ireland were going to be the first, as Northern Ireland is the first nation in the UK to implement the new law.

Here are some comments on civil unions on the BBC's site. Note that most of those who weighed in with an objection have issues with speaking English. And if I see one more person say that "marriage is for procreation" I will flip. These people don't seem to be overly keen to campaign for banning post-menopausal women from marrying, oddly enough...
